IMŌTO Tea
Branding, Packaging Design & eCommerce
What IMŌTO needed help with
IMŌTO Tea required a strong brand identity, supporting packaging for their product and an e-commerce platform established to support selling their new line of premium ceremonial matcha tea.
For their brand identity, they required logos/marks, typography and a colour palette; all within a brand guide to adhere to.
As for their Shopify store, having never used the platform before, the Tan sisters required me to setup the foundation of their store to ensure products and their respective information were all displayed correctly, and that the site overall matched the new brand identity that I had developed for them.
After the store had been established, they required me to walk them through how to operate the store using the processes I had developed so that they could run the store without my future assistance.
Branding
Logos & Marks
To begin, I experimented with various marks. For these marks, I tried to incorporate the brand name “IMŌTO” into various shapes that represented activities that would be commonplace within drinking matcha.
Colour & Typography
When discussing the colour palette and typography choices of IMŌTO, there were various inspirations that the Tan sisters liked. For me, it became a task of narrowing down what they liked, sifting through what worked and didn’t work, and ensuring that what remained still aligned with their tastes, and would strongly represent the way IMŌTO was perceived by their target audience.

Label Design
After establishing the logos/marks and colour palette, I then proceeded to create the labels that would be printed onto IMŌTO’s Matcha jars. The inspiration provided for these designs were taken from various skincare and fragrance brands, such as Aesop and Lelabo.

Setting Up the Foundation
Having an extensive background in Shopify and eCommerce, a big part of my task was setting up the foundation that the Tan sisters would build IMŌTO upon. This involved creating the products and collections, but also building custom fields on their front-end that tied back to their back-end Metafields. I also helped to create their templates that would be used for order confirmations, updates, and email marketing.

Imōto’s Hikari matcha is a single cultivar Tsuyuhikari ceremonial matcha and is the most premium in our line, sourced from the Shizuoka prefecture and is 100% JAS organic certified.
Handing Over the Process
In addition to laying the foundation of their Shopify store, I wanted to ensure that they knew how to operate it entirely without my assistance in the future.
To do this, I walked them through how to use the back-end of Shopify and thoroughly explained to them how the additional functions that I built would tie to their front-end website.
I showed them the mailer templates I had created as well and their various use-cases for different promotional scenarios that they would need them for.
IMŌTO, After Launch

initial customer base, and continually growing
within the Australian matcha audience & market
This project resulted in IMŌTO successfully launching their brand and their website, generating over $10,000 in sales within their first few days.
Through their own marketing streams, they have developed a small, but growing base of returning customers, and through my assistance with branding and established eCommerce foundation, they now have growing presence within the Australian matcha market.
